When first starting out in the travel industry, I remember feeling lost, confused and overwhelmed trying to navigate what direction I needed to go.  I quit several times. 

Thankfully,  my love of travel and planning Disney trips repeatedly brought me back and made me more determined to succeed. 

I realized that the industry wasn't difficult, I just chose the wrong host agency.  I initially chose a host agency that signed me up and literally sent me their CLIA # and said "Here ya go...use this to access supplier training...we'll send you a check for your percentage when the supplier pays us!!" That approach would be perfectly fine for a seasoned travel agent that knows their way around the industry, but that just does not work for a brand new agent.  

While working for years in the industry I decided that eventually I wanted to start my own agency and that would not be my mode of operation.  I have found that a little direction goes a long way.  

If I had been given a basic idea, a "This is what to expect" of how things worked, I would have been able to navigate through it with a little more ease.

Here at Celebration Destination Travel Agency, we remember what it was like and strive to provide as much information and direction for all of our agents, new and experienced.

In the travel industry there are two ways to be eligible to receive commissions for booking travel.

(The hard way)

1. Start your own travel agency, obtain your own IATA or CLIA # and establish relationships with each individual supplier.

(The easy way)

2. Join a host agency.  When joining a host agency, you become an independant contractor with the agency. You then register as a travel agent with your choice of suppliers under the credentials of the host agency, complete the supplier training and start booking travel and earning money right away. When partnering with a host agency you pay a small monthly or yearly membership fee allowing use of their credentials and a commission split is involved.  The typical commission split within the travel industry is generally 70/30.

At Celebration Destinations Travel Agency the starting split for new agents is 80/20 with tiered commission percentage increases after meeting sales milestones.
